About

We are looking forward to invite you to a unique event in the middle of the Tyrolean Alps. As a small community, we are happy to announce the second edition of our Shag ‘n’ Bal festival in Innsbruck, with international teachers, unique classes and of course, great surroundings.

Günter Ender / https://www.alpen-panoramen.de/panorama.php?pid=11965

Our passion for Collegiate Shag and Balboa guided us to create this festival in the beautiful city of Innsbruck. As “Alpine Jitterbugs Innsbruck” we  organise it with love for our local scene and for all our friends out there.

Like all the other Festivals around the globe, we had to postpone ours to next year,
10-12 December 2021.
We had the idea to create a small Online-Edition  for this year to connect with all of you again.

Egle & Arnas

Egle Nemickaite is a swing dancer from Vilnius, Lithuania where she is dancing, performing, teaching and inspiring the community at What a Jazz dance studio everyday. Dance followed Egle through all her life, but she found the real passion for Lindy Hop and later on for Collegiate Shag too. Dance has always felt like a big liberation for Egle. Liberation from routines, thoughts, work, limits. Dancing makes her feel true to herself, music and partner. It gives her the power of total freedom and also a peace to the mind, body and heart. Her rich teaching experience is being increasingly appreciated at the international workshops as well. She shares her enormous passion towards a dance with great joy and commitment. Arnas Razgūnas is a devoted swing dancer and teacher, a social dancer to the core, an explorer who often gets lost to surprise himself and discover things he didn’t think he could do. A true jazz enthusiast inspired mostly by energetic effortless swinging music Arnas is actively seeking for deep understanding of what’s swing in music and dance. Rich experience in teaching every day local classes grants quality and fun with clear explanation of his material by expressing music and yourself in it. Arnas is a co-founder of What a Jazz Dance Studio in Vilnius and co-organizer of the one and only Balboa & Shag festival in Lithuania – Swing Paradise.

Cherry & Filip

Cherry and Filip met in 2013 on a Lindy Hop course in SWINGOUT.PL dance studio. They started to dance Collegiate Shag in 2014 among a bunch of enthusiasts who brought it to Warsaw, and partnered up while performing with the Warsaw Shag Team. - Cherry, do You want to be the best in the world one day? - Yes, why not… - Me too, so let’s get to work! With this frivolous conversation they started to work together and train regularly. After 3 months they won the Strictly Shag competition during Warsaw Collegiate Shag Festival and after 6 months they became instructors in SWINGOUT.PL. Since that moment they teach regulary Lindy Hop and Collegiate Shag around Poland and abroad. Their dance is full of energy. Cherry dances with a wild Latin temperament, elegance and open head, playing with the rhythm and shaking things out. She loved to dance since she remembers. At the age of 6 she started with ballet and contemporary, then switched to ballroom and lyrical jazz for a while. Filip is a musician for many years, playing on the guitar, trombone and mandoline. He’s one of the founders of The Cajun Spices - a Polish gypsy jazz band. His passion reflects the way he dances and makes it a fine form of expression. They are full of enthusiasm, looking for new ideas and challenges. The first class they gave together was held in a Zoo for a group of children.

Balboa

Anni & Gaspar

Anni Skoglund (Sweden) and Gašper Hrovat (Slovenia) is an inspiring dance couple. Their style is playful, passionate and smooth. They share the love for the dance as their form of communication through rhythm, melody and harmony. To them it is the awareness of one another that make the couple dance so magic. From a young age both of them danced several styles before getting into authentic jazz dances. Anni's background lays in Swedish folk-dance, waltz and fox-trot, meanwhile Gašper's in popular 90's Street dances. Eventually swing dance came across and met them in Herräng Dance Camp. Now - performing, teaching and lecturing about swing dances, at home and abroad, has seen them as evolve into a couple that has won competitions with their vibrant style and superfast feet. But above all, social dance is their thing. Anni Skoglund After visiting a History dance-lesson of balboa in Toronto 2009, Anni knew that this was her new favourite dance. With a degree in Occupational Therapy Anni has a deeper understanding in how to help people reach their full potential in activity. Combining this with teaching dance is an ongoing and interesting journey. Within the dancing, her focus is the true feel, emotion and communication of the couple, led and inspired by harmony of swingin’ rhythms. Gašper Hrovat Gašper Hrovat is a gentleman and a classy dancer with lots of positive attitude, enthusiastic mood and inspiration. His form of dancing lays in vintage jazz dancing from 1920’s on. Gasper loves to help you find inspiration and visualise the music through the dance. The music is a central part of Gaspers interest for the history of Balboa and jazz. Ask him questions or let him Dj and you are in for a journey.

Sanna & Adam

Sanna and Adam have been dancing and teaching swing together for more than ten years. During this time, they have become well known for the joy and skill that they bring to the social dance floor. Mostly partial to balboa and lindy hop mix & match competitions, they have taken numerous titles individually at events such as The Snowball, European Swing Dance Championships and Balboa Castle Camp, as well as placing in various events in Europe and the US. In the classroom, they emphasize a solid mix of technique and playfulness resulting in a dynamic and personalized approach to musicality and movement that is accessible to all dancers.
